Echoes and Traces documents movement through life, the marks we make on people, our imprints; the traces of our existence in the memories of our kin, and how our physical nature affects the world around us. Frueh reflects on her works for this show:

Echoes, memories, physical changes - these are what remains as we move through the world and past one another. This body of work mimics the way that every relationship or journey leaves a trace - memories and scars and connections. The pieces explore those echoes and traces of experience like fossils communicating through time. - Linda Frueh

Frueh's mastery of the encaustic medium results in sensuous surfaces, luminous colors, and textures that create depth and pique curiousity in her audience. In Echoes & Traces, Frueh works in both representational and the abstract, blurring the lines between the two with works like This is Now, and That Was Then, both created at the apex of the pandemic in 2020. In late 2020, and early 2021 the artist takes a deep exploration into the abyss of blackness, toying with the incredible subtleties she could create with just this color in works like Borderlands, and Olduvai.
